Terms of use

Last updated: 7 October 2026

In short: Monize helps you organise your money; it doesn't give regulated financial advice. You own your information and can delete it any time. Paid plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel online at any time.

1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Monize (Pty) Ltd for your use of Monize, including the web app at portal.monize.co.za and our mobile apps. By creating an account or using Monize you accept these terms and our Privacy policy. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (CPA) or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002 (ECT Act). 3. Your account

4. The service

Monize lets you record and import your accounts and transactions, categorise spending, set budgets and goals, see forecasts and your net worth and, on some plans, chat with the Monize Assistant.

5. Not financial advice

Monize, including the Monize Assistant, provides general information and tools to help you understand and organise your own finances. It does not provide financial advice or intermediary services as defined in FAIS, and nothing in Monize is a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any financial product. The assistant's replies are generated by AI, may contain mistakes, and do not consider every aspect of your circumstances. For decisions about investments, retirement products, insurance, tax or debt restructuring, consult an authorised financial services provider, a registered tax practitioner or a registered debt counsellor.

6. Your information

You own the information you add to Monize. You give us permission to store, process and display it only to provide Monize to you, as described in our Privacy policy. You confirm that you're entitled to upload any statements you import. You can export your transactions and accounts and delete your account at any time.

7. Plans and payments

8. Cancelling and refunds

9. Vouchers and discount codes

10. Acceptable use

You agree not to: use Monize for anyone else's finances without their permission; upload unlawful content or anything you're not entitled to share; try to access other people's data or our systems without authorisation; interfere with, overload, scrape or reverse engineer Monize; misuse Claude or the assistant, including trying to get around plan limits; or use Monize for any unlawful purpose, including fraud or money laundering. We may suspend accounts that break these rules, and will tell you why unless the law prevents us.

11. Third-party services

Monize relies on third parties, including Google (sign-in and hosting), Apple, Anthropic (Claude), Paystack, SendGrid and exchange-rate providers. Their services are subject to their own terms. We choose them carefully but aren't responsible for their failures, except to the extent we caused or could reasonably have prevented the loss.

12. Intellectual property

Monize, its software, design and content belong to Monize (Pty) Ltd or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use Monize under these terms. Bank and provider names and logos belong to their owners, are used with permission or for identification only, and don't imply endorsement.

13. Liability

14. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Settings > Delete my account; this permanently deletes your Monize data as described in our Privacy policy. We may suspend or close an account for a material breach of these terms that isn't fixed within a reasonable time after we've told you about it, or immediately where needed to prevent fraud or harm. If we close Monize entirely, we'll give at least 30 days' notice, time to export your data, and a pro-rata refund of prepaid fees.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We'll post the new version here and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before they apply. If you don't agree, you may cancel before the change takes effect.

16. Complaints and governing law

If something goes wrong, contact us first at compliance@monize.co.za. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 5 business days and aim to resolve it within 20 business days. You may also approach the National Consumer Commission, a consumer court, or the Information Regulator for privacy matters. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and South African courts have jurisdiction.
